In this In Session video and article we take a look at Will Raison's scaled down maggot fishing approach to cold water in winter. When you have to fish hard to get any bites from F1s, bream, roach and small fish these are his tactics. He covers when maggots are best; the volume of bait required; his favoured colours; why he likes single hook baits; his favoured maggot rig; feeding; topping up; the ideal pole cup; what he calls light tackle; how many swims to try; dealing with the quiet spells; controlling the rig with a short line; what indications to strike at and more.
Filmed and photographed on Gold Valley's Middle Lake after the recent frosts Will get's to grips with the difficult conditions and targets bites rather than specific species or stamp of fish. Despite a blank couple of hours his tactics pay off in the latter stages and he reveals how you can make them work for you too. A combination of scaling down rigs, using maggots instead of expander pellets, interesting presentation tips, concentration and hard work all pull together for a great result.
With the winter upon us right now these tactics could well pay off at venues up and down the land with F1s, small carp, skimmers bream, roach and perch.
In The Tackle Room video and article Will shows how he constricts his feeder link booms while in tactical Ten he sheds light on ten ways to make some extra bites this winter.
